Osayma Al Nahlawi

I am a student from Syria. I have a bachelor degree in Psychology from Damascus University. This is my third course in the MET program. I am interested in learning and technology issues, and willing to continue studying in these fields.

We really enjoyed putting this case study together - it was challenging, but fun.

We hope you enjoy it too and are inspired to do something about e-waste in your ecosystems too!

My education started at the University of the Fraser valley where I earned a Bachelor’s degree with a major in English literature and minor in applied ethical and political philosophy. From there I moved to Simon Fraser University to earn my Bachelor’s of Education. Since graduating from SFU  in 2010 I have been working as a High school Teacher in Fort Nelson BC, teaching English 8-12, Social Studies 8-10, Communications 11-12 and Physical Education 11/12. I have since started my Master’s of Education Technology at the University of British Columbia and plan on continuing teaching once I have completed this degree.

My first degree was a Bachelor of Communication and Culture from the University of Calgary.  I went on to complete my Bachelor of Education after at the same institution.  I have been working as a teacher for the past ten years in Calgary and Airdrie teaching grades k-8 in almost every subject area.  For the past two years I have taken the role as Technology Mentor Teacher in my district helping teachers and staff to use technology.  Currently I am working to complete my Master's of Education Degree at UBC.

I have a Masters in Consertavation and Environmental Biology, from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, so this topic is right up my alley!  Currently in my role as research assistant at UBC I am working on developing a course on Ocean Conservation and Sustainability.  This is my first course in the TBDL stream (certificate as opposed to Masters)!
